Join the Diabetes Association Inc, (DAI), CDREC, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Healthy Cities Fall River and join the Fall River Fitness Challenge and help the City of Fall River get fit, healthy and lose a combined total of 2000lbs! A Ton Weight!!!
What’s the challenge all about?
Fitness participants will gain access to programs and fitness centers throughout the city for little or no cost. These programs that will help them learn to eat well, lose weight, get fit, prevent diabetes and other diseases and win some great prizes!
Who can participate?
The Fall River Fitness Challenge is open to all adults who live and work in Fall River. Join with a buddy, by yourself or form a team!
How does the challenge work?
Join us at our Challenge kickoff on Saturday, January 12, 2008 from 9 AM to noon at CD REC located at 72 Bank Street, (Veterans Memorial Building), to sign up, weigh-in and learn more about the challenge! The final day for signing up for the Challenge is January 25. People are still eligible to join the fitness center or attend exercise sessions anytime during the challenge.
Participants will be given a Fitness Challenge membership card that will allow them to gain access to the following programs:
- Free weekly support programs held at DAI offices, 170 Pleasant Street, Fall River MA. Sessions include:
- Monthly meetings with a registered dietitian.
- Meetings with a Certified Diabetes Educator
- Meetings with local Health Professionals
- Power to Move: Classes Filled
- Membership to CDREC’s Neighborhood Fitness Center-5 months for only $24!
- Sessions with a Certified Personal Trainer-Mondays 5-6 PM; $5 per session;
NO REGISTRATION NEEDED (www.whereistheworkout.com)
- Fun, High-impact aerobic Zumba! Classes-Thursdays, 5:30-6:30PM; $3/session; Zumba is a fun, high-energy fitness workout for all abilities and ages, featuring Latino music and dance moves.
- Additional fitness sessions are available for $5/session on different nights with Fitness Center Membership only.
- Free use of pool facilities and exercise equipment at Fall River Boys & Girls Club
- Monday-Friday 8:30-9:00AM, 12:00-2:00PM, 4:30-5:30PM
How can I win?
Each time you or your team takes advantage of one of the above programs, show your challenge card and receive a ticket to be entered into our grand prize raffle!
How/When do I weigh in?
Weigh in twice a month at the following locations, CDREC, DAI, Family Service Association, Corrigan Mental Health, First Baptist Church. Call 508.672.5671 for directions or for more information.
What are the prizes?
Grand Prizes:
- Weekend for two at “Our Little Piece of Heaven” A lakeside cabin located in Otis, Maine. Total Value $500
- Meet one on one with a personal trainer for 6 months (once a week). Total value $1200
Weight loss* winners will select from the following prizes:
- Weekend get away for two at the Providence Westin Hotel, Providence, RI. Total Value $1000
- Weekend Getaway
- Adult mountain bike.
- Year membership to General Fitness, Fall River MA.
- Year membership to CDREC Neighborhood Fitness Challenge
(*Winner will be determined by biggest % of total weight loss)
Team winners:
The team that wins with the greatest amount of average weight loss will win a Corporate Membership to CDREC’s Neighborhood Fitness Center. Total value $500
